How PRP for men works
The whole visit takes about an hour. A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and spun in a centrifuge for several minutes to concentrate the platelets. While that’s happening, a numbing cream is applied to the treatment area so the injections are as comfortable as possible. The PRP is then placed with a very fine needle in a few spots. Most men describe pressure more than pain.
There’s usually no real downtime. You can drive yourself home and get back to work. Araceli will give you written aftercare and tell you when you can return to normal activity.
Does PRP work for ED? The honest answer
This is the question every man asks, so here it is plainly:
- The research is early and mixed. Some small studies have reported improvement in erectile function scores after PRP. A randomized, placebo-controlled trial published in the Journal of Urology in 2023 found no significant difference between PRP and placebo.
- It isn’t FDA-approved for erectile dysfunction. Using PRP this way is off-label, and urology guidelines still consider it investigational.
- Results vary from man to man. Some men report a change they’re happy with; others don’t. Nobody can promise you a specific result, and nobody should.
That’s why every PRP visit at Dream starts with a consultation, and why Araceli will tell you if she doesn’t think it’s a good fit for you.
Straight talk: if a clinic promises PRP will “fix” ED or guarantees a size or performance change, that claim isn’t supported by the evidence. Ask what they base it on.
Check in with your doctor first
Erection problems can be an early warning sign of heart disease, diabetes or low testosterone, sometimes years before other symptoms show up. If you haven’t had a check-up recently, that matters more than any injection. Araceli may suggest you see your primary care provider or a urologist first, and she’ll ask about your medications and health history at your consultation.
Who is a good candidate?
Candidacy is decided at your consultation. PRP generally isn’t right for men with certain blood or platelet disorders, active infections, or some cancers, and blood thinners can affect the plan. Bring a list of your medications and supplements. If PRP isn’t a fit, you’ll hear that directly.
Cost and number of sessions
PRP for men is priced per session. Many men choose a short series spaced a few weeks apart, and the plan depends on your goals. Your exact price is set at your free consultation, before anything is booked. Monthly offers, when there are any, are on the specials page.
PRP vs other options
| Option | What it is | Where it stands |
|---|---|---|
| Prescription medication | Oral medication prescribed by a medical provider | Well established; the usual first step, through your doctor |
| PRP | Your own concentrated platelets, injected after numbing | Emerging and off-label; research is early and mixed |
| Shockwave therapy | Low-intensity sound-wave sessions | Also being studied; not offered at Dream |
Some men ask about PRP alongside medication their doctor prescribes. Keep taking anything you’ve been prescribed unless your prescriber tells you otherwise, and tell Araceli about it.
