Botox guide

How many units of Botox do I need?

The short answer: it depends on your muscles, your goals and the areas you treat. Here’s what typical doses look like, what 20, 30 or 50 units usually cover, and how units turn into a price.

Your provider: Araceli Huerta, APRN, MSN, FNP-CUpdated October 20, 2026

Start with the label doses

Most people call any wrinkle-relaxing injection “Botox.” At Dream, Araceli uses Jeuveau, an FDA-approved neurotoxin for frown lines that works the same way. Here’s what the labels say:

  • Frown lines (11s): 20 units. This is Jeuveau’s FDA-approved use and dose (the Botox brand uses the same 20 units).
  • Crow’s feet and forehead: the Botox brand’s label lists 24 units for crow’s feet and 20 for the forehead. For Jeuveau these areas are off-label, and the dose is set by your provider.

Label doses are averages from clinical studies, not rules. In practice, injectors adjust for muscle strength, face shape and how much movement you want to keep. (Source: Jeuveau prescribing information.)

What 20, 30 or 50 units usually cover

  • 20 units: typically frown lines alone, or a light “baby Botox” spread across the forehead and 11s for someone with mild lines.
  • 30 to 40 units: often frown lines plus forehead, or frown lines plus crow’s feet.
  • 50 to 65 units: roughly a full upper face (forehead, 11s and crow’s feet).

Masseter (jaw) treatment and other off-label areas follow different math, usually more units per side for the jaw and just a few for a lip flip.

Why your injector may suggest more or less

  • Muscle strength: stronger muscles (often, but not always, men) may need more to relax.
  • Your goal: a natural, moving result may use fewer units than a very smooth one.
  • Experience with tox: first-timers often start conservatively and add at the two-week check.
  • Brow position: too much in the forehead can lower the brows, so less is sometimes more.

How units translate to cost

Total cost is units multiplied by the price per unit. Published Fresno-area regular prices were roughly $12 to $15 per unit when we checked in October 2026. So, for example, 20 units at $12 would be $240, and 50 units at $12 would be $600. Our current Jeuveau price and special are on the pricing guide and specials page.

Is $400 enough for Botox? Often, for one or two areas: at $10 to $15 per unit, $400 covers about 25 to 40 units. Your exact dose and total are set at your free consultation.

Questions, answered

Still wondering about something? Call or text (559) 338-5503.

How much is 20 units of Botox good for?

Usually frown lines (the 11s), which is the label dose, or a light treatment across the forehead and 11s for mild lines.

How much is 50 units of Botox?

Multiply 50 by the per-unit price. At published Fresno regular prices of about $12 to $15 per unit, that’s roughly $600 to $750.

Is $400 enough for Botox?

Often for one or two areas: about 25 to 40 units at $10 to $15 per unit.

Do men need more units?

Often, because facial muscles tend to be stronger, but it depends on the individual.

Is Jeuveau dosed the same as Botox?

For frown lines, yes: both use 20 units. Other areas are off-label for Jeuveau and dosed by the injector.

Do you use Botox?

Araceli uses Jeuveau, which works the same way. The Botox brand itself isn’t offered at Dream.
