What is the 4-hour rule?
After a neurotoxin treatment (Araceli uses Jeuveau, the kind of injection most people call Botox), stay upright, without lying down or bending over for long periods, for about four hours. The idea is to let the product settle into the muscles where it was placed and reduce any chance of it spreading to nearby muscles. Most injectors give some version of this advice, and it’s an easy one to follow.
The first 24 hours
- Don’t rub, press or massage the treated areas. That includes facials, tight hats and headbands.
- Skip strenuous exercise for the rest of the day; light walking is fine.
- Avoid heat: saunas, hot yoga and hot tubs can wait until tomorrow.
- Go easy on alcohol that day to limit bruising.
- Move your face normally. Some injectors suggest gently frowning or raising your brows in the first hour; it won’t hurt.
Can I wear makeup?
You can usually apply makeup later the same day, gently, without pressing hard on the injection points. Mineral makeup or a light touch is ideal.
When can I lie down or sleep?
After about four hours. That night, sleep however you normally do; if you’re a face-down sleeper, try your back for the first night if it’s comfortable.
When will I see results?
Changes start in about 3 to 5 days, with the full result at about two weeks. That’s the right time for a check-in if you want a touch more anywhere.
